Texas Trash Dip

- 1 pkg. cream cheese
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 pkg. shredded Mexican blend cheese divided
Canned Goods
- 2 cans refried beans
- 1 can chopped green chiles drained and rinsed
Spices and Seasonings
- 1 envelope taco seasoning (about 3 Tbsp.)
- ½ tsp. kosher salt
- ¼ tsp. smoked paprika
- ¼ tsp. chili powder
- ¼ tsp. onion powder
- ⅛ tsp. cayenne pepper
Others
- ¼ cup thinly sliced scallions
- cooking spray
- tortilla chips for serving
Instructions
Preparation Steps
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly coat a 13- x 9-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
- Microwave cream cheese and sour cream in a large microwave-safe bowl on HIGH until cream cheese is softened, about 1 minute and 30 seconds. Whisk together until smooth.
- To the cream cheese mixture, stir in beans, green chiles, taco seasoning, salt, smoked paprika, chili powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, and 2 cups of the cheese until well combined.
- Transfer to prepared baking dish, and spread in an even layer. Top with remaining 2 cups cheese.
- Bake in preheated oven until cheese is melted, about 25 minutes. Remove from oven, and top evenly with scallions. Serve with tortilla chips.
Notes
While traditionally served hot, Texas trash dip can also be enjoyed cold. Ensure ingredients are drained properly to maintain thickness.
