Dry Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 ¼ tsp)
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
Wet Ingredients
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 egg beaten egg (for egg wash)
Fillings
- ½ pound Italian sausage cooked and crumbled
- 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
Preparation
In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
Add flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth.
Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 45 minutes, or until doubled in size.
Roll out the dough into a rectangle. Evenly spread cooked sausage, mozzarella, Parmesan, and oregano over the surface.
Roll up the dough tightly from the long side, pinch the seams, and place seam-side down on a lined baking sheet. Brush the top with beaten egg.
Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 30–35 minutes until golden brown. Let cool slightly before slicing and serving.
