Equipment

  • Baking sheet or 9x13 baking dish
  • sharp serrated knife
  • Small bowl
  • pastry brush
  • aluminum foil

Ingredients

Italian Sub Sliders

  • 1 12-count package Hawaiian rolls or slider buns
  • 6 slices provolone cheese
  • 8 slices deli ham
  • 8 slices Genoa salami
  • 12-16 slices pepperoni
  • ½ cup mild or hot giardiniera drained and chopped
  • 6-8 slices roasted red peppers from a jar, patted dry
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ¼ cup banana peppers sliced, optional for extra tang

Roasted Red Pepper Garlic Glaze

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 1 tablespoon finely minced roasted red peppers from above
  • 1 small garlic clove grated or minced
  • ½ teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • Pinch salt

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  • Slice the entire sheet of rolls horizontally so you end up with a single top layer and a bottom layer. Place the bottom portion into a baking dish.
  • Arrange the ham, salami, and pepperoni evenly over the bottom rolls.
  • Layer the provolone slices, roasted red pepper slices, giardiniera, banana peppers (if using), and shredded mozzarella cheese.
  • Place the top slab of rolls back on.
  • In a small bowl, stir together the melted butter, minced roasted red peppers, garlic, Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, and a pinch of salt.
  • Brush the glaze generously over the top of the rolls. Cover loosely with foil and bake for 15 minutes, then uncover and bake for 5-7 more minutes until the tops are golden and the cheese is melty.
  • Let rest for 5 minutes, then slice into 12 sliders.

Notes

Dry the roasted peppers well to avoid sogginess. Cover for the first bake so the cheese melts without over-browning the rolls. Chop the giardiniera small for even distribution in every bite. Use a serrated knife to get clean cuts through the filling.
