Ground Beef and Orzo Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small yellow onion finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- ½ teaspoon dried basil
- ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes optional
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup orzo pasta
- 1 can crushed tomatoes 14.5 oz
- 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
- ½ cup heavy cream
- ⅓ cup grated parmesan cheese plus more for serving
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley chopped for garnish
Cooking Instructions
Heat olive oil in a large skillet or deep sauté pan over medium-high heat.
Add chopped onion and cook for 2–3 minutes until softened.
Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute, just until fragrant.
Add ground beef to the pan, breaking it up with a spoon.
Season with salt, pepper, oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes.
Cook until beef is fully browned, about 5–6 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.
Stir in the orzo, crushed tomatoes, and beef broth.
Bring to a simmer, cover, and cook for 10–12 minutes until orzo is tender, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
Reduce heat to low. Stir in heavy cream and parmesan cheese until smooth and creamy.
Cook uncovered for 2–3 more minutes to thicken the sauce.
Sprinkle with chopped parsley and extra parmesan cheese before serving.
