Ingredients
  

For the Sauce

  • 1 cup White Sugar Substitute with brown sugar for a deeper flavor.
  • 1 cup Water Essential for achieving the right consistency.

For the Dough

For the Apples

  • 6 medium Macintosh or Gala Apples Consider their sweetness and moisture.

Preparation

  • In a medium saucepan, combine white sugar, water, cinnamon, and butter. Heat until it starts bubbling; cook for 1-2 minutes until slightly thickened, then set aside to cool.
  • In a large bowl, blend all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt together. Cut in the cold shortening until resembling coarse crumbs. Stir in milk until just combined, then refrigerate.
  • Peel and core each apple. Fill the center of each apple with butter, then sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.
  • Roll out dough and cut into squares. Wrap each apple in dough, sealing all openings.
  • Place dumplings in a greased baking pan. Pour cooled sauce over them, sprinkle with more sugar. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for about 35 minutes until golden brown.
  • Let cool slightly before serving, drizzled with remaining sauce and enjoy with ice cream or milk.
