Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Topping

  • ½ cup packed brown sugar (topping)
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder (topping)
  • 1 ¼ cups very hot water (topping)

Instructions
 

Baking Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8×8 inch baking dish.
  • In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, granulated sugar, and cocoa powder. Stir in milk, melted butter, and vanilla until well combined. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared dish.
  • In another bowl, mix brown sugar and remaining cocoa powder. Sprinkle this mixture over the batter without stirring.
  • Carefully pour hot water over the top without mixing.
  • Bake for 40-45 minutes until the center is just set but still gooey.
  • Allow cooling for about 10-15 minutes before serving warm with ice cream.
