Equipment

  • baking sheets
  • parchment paper
  • mixing bowls
  • whisk
  • electric mixer
  • cookie scoop

Ingredients

  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon fine salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup brown sugar, packed
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and creamy.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients and mix just until combined.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips.
  • Scoop the dough into portions of about 1 ½ tablespoons each and place them 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.
  • Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until the edges are lightly golden and the centers still look slightly soft.
  • Let the cookies rest on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool.

Notes

For thicker cookies, chill the dough for 20 to 30 minutes before baking. Do not overbake if you want a soft center. Press a few extra chocolate chips on top before baking for a prettier finish. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
