Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder optional for chocolate cake
  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 6-inch round cake pan with parchment paper.
  • Mix dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder (if using), baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
